I am just back from the “All Things Silhouette” conference held in Peachtree City, GA. About 450 crazy crafting ladies, (and men) attended this event.
Silhouette America was founded in 2009 in Utah. The company makes a variety of desk-top cutting machines and several other electronic crafting products. The cutting machines can cut a variety of materials like vinyl, leather, thin wood, polymer clay, fabric and other media types. The Silhouette Store has digital designs to be downloaded into the software, Silhouette Studio, and used with the cutting machines.
I purchased the Silhouette Cameo 2 about a year ago. I must say that directly out of the box, this machine is not user-friendly. I was very frustrated trying to figure out how to use the machine. Eventually, I signed up for a Lori Whitlock class on Craftsy that taught me how to use my Cameo from the basic start-up. The class was called “Next Steps in Silhouette Studio”. Thank goodness for that class. I was about to send the machine back to the seller.
My sister attended the “All Things Silhouette” conference last year. She was very enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn more about the cutting machines. The community of crafters that use the Silhouette machines is brilliant. These folks craft everything: quilts, fabric, applique, jewelry, wood, paper, vinyl, plastic, screen printing, heat pressing, etc. Many of these folks have put vinyl decals on everything. It gets to be a joke after a while.
During the weekend, I participated in classes on “Designing in Silhouette Studio”, how to trace digital images and bring them into the design space, how to cut fabric with my Cameo, how to use the Pixscan technology, how to use heat transfer vinyl and layer it. On Saturday evening, we took a card building class with Lori Whitlock. The card turned out really cute.
Christy and I had a great time together over the weekend. I thought that I was the only nut in the family. Ha, we all have the same great sense of humor. We laughed a lot. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks were included in the price of the conference. I purchased a bunch of new supplies in the conference vendor hall.
I received lots of great freebies at the conference as well. The food was great and we got an extra walk in each day. The hotel and conference center were beautiful. If anyone is interested in attending this conference or learning more about the Silhouette cutting machines please email or text me.
