Have you ever tried to sleep late with dogs in the bed? Well, let me tell you it isn’t possible at the Knucklehead Ranch.
Iggy, Augie, and Gemma Lee are up at the freaking butt crack of dawn. If they aren’t barking at imaginary foes outside the window, they are fighting over who gets to sleep next to Mom.
Augie is my special needs Bulldog. I’m pretty sure his gene pool wasn’t very deep. He has thrown up everything he eats from the time he was a puppy. Mega Esophagus? His tongue licks the opposite way. Instead of licking with the top of his tongue, he licks with the bottom. If you offer him
a snack, he will nearly bite your hand off. I call it the “jaws of death”. He is a mean little “some bitch”. He beats up on my Jack Russell nearly every day. Iggy and I have had to have sutures or staples several times in the past five years. Augie even bit my Dremel saw one day and lacerated his lip. My friends in St. George helped staple him back together. Didn’t really phase him. And, Augie snores.
My Iggy is a gentle, loving puppy. He is sweet and obedient most of the time. He will let you snuggle him. He will sit on your lap nicely. He doesn’t snore! Iggy will take food gently from your hand. He takes his snack outside to inspect it. Iggy has been in trouble a few times though. He has killed my chickens, kittens, squirrels, rabbits, mice, and birds. Jack Russell’s were bred for hunting varmints.
My beautiful Gemma Lee is an angel baby. Gemma is an English Bulldog. She is well-behaved (most of the time). Gemma loves to run and play. We bred Gemma last year with one puppy born. Unfortunately, we lost our baby in a tragic accident. Gemma likes to sit on the bed and bark intermittently, once every ten seconds to be exact. She hates to have her nails trimmed. Gemma absolutely will not tolerate getting her ears cleaned.
My dogs are companions. There is never a dull moment around here. Sometimes trying to keep the dogs separate from the goats and chickens can be a challenge.
I have been baking some nummy cookies and bars. If you want a sweet, chewy treat, try these macaroon bars. All you need is:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 bag (12-14 oz) Bobs Red Mill unsweetened shredded coconut
Mix it all together thoroughly and press into a greased Wilton 8X8 inch baking pan. Bake at 350* for long enough to brown the top of bars lightly (25 minutes). Watch it carefully as it can go from light brown to burnt in a few seconds.
Let it cool, place in the fridge, slice and eat! Yummy!
