It has finally started to rain here in Southern Utah.
We had the biggest fire in the country for several weeks. The Brian Head fire is finally under control. The fire burned approximately 70,000 acres. Bummer! That is what happens when the Forest Service isn’t allowed to do controlled burns of the forest debris or clear areas of diseased trees. The fuel load builds up and eventually, someone allows a fire to get out of control. Woopsie!
I never thought the weather could affect my baking projects. Or perhaps I’m just an idiot. I tried to make English Toffee the other day. The butter and sugar completely separated. What’s up with that?
I googled “why did the butter and sugar separate while making toffee”? Evidently, there are quite a few reasons for this phenomenon: uneven melting of the sugar and butter, not stirring it constantly, not having a candy thermometer and paying attention to it, not having a heavy enough pot! Bah humbug!
Nevertheless, I put it in the pan anyway. I tried to pour off as much of the butter as I could. The result is that the “toffee” tastes like it is supposed to and it hardened like it was supposed to. And, basically, it looks like it’s supposed to look. http://pin.it/Tdf1au7 here is a link to a Pinterest recipe.
I finally got all the metal on the front of the garage.
Now starting on the back of the garage. The wind starts blowing out here about 10 am. It sucks sometimes. I am determined to get the outside of the garage completed by fall.
Hope you are all well.
