Have you ever looked out your window and noticed the goat has been caught by a bulldog who has its horn in its mouth? It happens at the Knucklehead Ranch more often than I’d like to admit.
My Gemma Lee and my female Pygmy goat, Lucy are antagonists. They are separated by a fence and chicken wire. Lucy baits the dogs by butting her head against the fence. Gemma tries to catch a horn whenever possible. On occasion, Lucy’s horns get caught in the fence and she is stuck. Gemma grabs a horn and the struggle begins. Yesterday was one of those occurrences.
I yell at both the goat and the dog. I yell at the goat for antagonizing the dogs. I yell at the dogs for antagonizing the goat. Nobody listens to me! Go figure? So I go out there and untangle everyone from the fence. Dumb goat! Dumb dogs!
If you have dogs, it’s best to keep them separated from the other animals. Some dogs are bred to get along with other critters, but not my Jack Russell or my English Bulldogs. They have to be trained. Iggy, my JRT, has been trained not to chase the chickens or the goats. Sometimes he can’t help it though. You can see the anticipation in his little quivering body. Iggy is a detective and can always find the holes in the fence.
Gemma my female bully, was trained not to chase the chickens or goats, but she has forgotten her lessons. We had to have a re-training the other day. Gemma and the goats.
We go thru chickens like they are going out of style. It really is frustrating to raise the birds from chicks only to have a cat, fox, or dog kill them. The dogs enjoy the chase. The dogs never eat the chickens. However, feral cats and foxes do eat the birds.
I once trapped a cat for eating my chickens. I took the cat into town to the animal shelter. The city shelter said the cat came from outside city limits and therefore he had to go to a county shelter. Well, the county shelter is 10 miles out-of-town. What a bunch of crap. The cat became a town cat shortly thereafter. Take that suckers!
I am staying busy as usual. I have switched back to PACU at the St. George hospital due to not getting enough hours of work in Cedar CIty. So, back to driving 100 miles a day for work. The overtime makes up for it though. I can at least pay my bills now. I purchased a small commuter car. 400+ miles per tank of gas. It doesn’t look great, but it runs great!
Recently I built a two hole nesting box for the chickens. It was way easy to build. I used a circular saw, my Ryobi drill/driver, scrap wood, and left over screws from cement forms (never throw away screws). I also built a little ladder for the birds to access the top box. I put some hay in there and the chickens have been laying eggs in it every day.
I have completed the siding on the outside of the garage. What a project. Now I just need to get the soffit and trim up around the eaves and the outside will be complete. I have a couple of lights to put up on the front and over the side door.
My neighbor and I will finish the driveway and the fencing next month so I will be able to put vehicles inside. Hoorah!
I am busy in my craft room getting ready for the holidays. I found a cute Halloween treat bag pattern on Pinterest.
I am making the appliqués for the fronts of the bags with my Silhouette Cameo and the Terial Magic fabric stabilizer spray I picked up at All Things Silhouette Conference in June. The SVG files are from Silhouette Studio.
I went to the Dollar Store today. Besides Costco, the Dollar Store is the next most dangerous place for me! I have wanted to get some glass vases and containers to make apothecary jars. You know the ones on Pinterest where they glue the candle stick on the bottom and paint or decorate the vase to hold goodies? I also picked up some totally unnecessary plastic containers and some Halloween decorations.
I also bought some spray paint to make these candle/flower holders for fall. Aren’t they cute! Only had to drink two bottles of Malibu Coconut Rum to get the bottles. I contemplated getting a third bottle of Rum, but anyway.
I designed a cool t-shirt today! I used HTV Glitter vinyl and my nifty heat press. I really love it and can’t wait to wear it!
I hope you all have a great end of August! Fall starts on September 1st for me. I am excited to decorate and get things going for the holidays. If you see any crafts or projects you’d like me to make for you, give me a shout out by email or text!
