Ok, today I have been a busy bee with my Silhouette Cameo, adhesive vinyl, and blanks. Glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl to be exact. I’m using the acrylic blanks that I purchased from Craft Chameleon at the All Things Silhouette conference last summer.
Blanks come in all shapes, sizes, and types. Items include key chains, earrings, canvas bags, burlap items, ceramic dishes, glass, metal. Anything you can put vinyl on that starts out “blank” can be included. Vinyl also comes in all sorts as well; glitter, glossy, metallic, matte, patterned, flocked, permanent adhesive, removable vinyl, and heat transfer vinyl.
The combination of vinyl, blanks and the awesome Silhouette Cameo cutting machine makes for a fun day of creating. Today I made two items. The first was a pineapple key chain for my friend. I used a clear acrylic blank shaped like a fat pineapple from myvinyldirect. The vinyl I used was a sample piece given to me at the ATS conference from SparkleBerry. The vinyl has a tropical theme so it fits with the pineapple. I had the folks at My Vinyl Direct send a digital cut file so I could use it in the Silhouette Studio. In Silhouette Studio you can manipulate the image until its perfect for your project. I added a little flare to the design by using a pineapple design I purchased from the Silhouette Store. The Silhouette Cameo does all the work for you. You need a bit of transfer tape to move the decal off its backing and position it on the blank. The metal findings to finish the key chain can be purchased from Craft Chameleon, Amazon, Walmart, Joanns, etc.
The next project I worked on today was this pretty cell phone easel. The easel came from Craft Chameleon. The vinyl is permanent adhesive vinyl in glitter blue from Expressions Vinyl. I absolutely love the mandala design from the Silhouette Store. The design is called hibiscusmandala.studio by Rhonna Farrer. I slowed the speed down on my Cameo so the small design elements weren’t ruined. The vinyl cut like a dream. The challenge in this design was weeding all the tiny pieces from the design. But, isn’t it beautiful. I have always loved waves and the hibiscus flower. I can customize these easels for you.
I actually purchased several sample kits of vinyl from my friends at Expressions Vinyl. It is nice to look at colors and feel the actual vinyl while you are deciding which ones you want to use in your projects. The samples come on a handy ring to hang in your craft room. The sample kits are 50% off right now!
