I am in Mexico this week. Puerto Lobos is a small fishing village in the State of Sonora Mexico. Lobos is located along the west coast of Mexico on the Sea of Cortez. My friend Greg, has been visiting this small village for many years. He started going to Lobos as a kid in the Scouts. Greg loves the peace and quiet in Lobos, and he loves to go fishing. I haven’t been fishing since I was a kid. So, when Greg asked if I wanted to go fishing in Mexico, I said why not. As long as he takes the fish off the hook, I’m all good!
We camp out during our visit. It is fairly cushy though since we have a big camper to stay in. However, the shower has extremely cold water and I am not thrilled by that bit! I enjoy looking for shells, being at the beach and on the water. I love spending time outside. We take a trip into “town” during our visit. There are two towns we go through on the way to Lobos that are fun to explore; Caborca and La y Griega. We have visited some old 1800’s Spanish churches, gone to the “tree store”, and visited some of the small grocery stores. Greg and I have fun looking at all the “odd” items for sale in these little stores. I laughed at the big bag of cheese puffs we found in one store. I mean big, like one of those body pillow sizes!
Greg can fix anything. I mean that literally. He bought a 1957 Crestliner metal boat for $50.00. He has rewired the steering system, and plugged all the holes. He repaired an older motor and it works like a charm. Most people throw those old motors away, but Greg finds them and put them back together. I did insist on my own life jacket though. I’ve spent to many years on the river as a guide not to wear a life jacket. I pack the snacks and drinks. Greg takes care of all the fishing stuff and the boat. It’s a good partnership.
I like a good adventure. I never know what we will see or find to do while we are in Mexico. Greg has friends in Lobos that look after his belongings while he is in Utah. The family has two boys and the younger of the two is a kid who likes adventure too. Edgar, is so funny. I think he is nine years old. He teaches me Spanish and I teach him English. Edgar walks with me on the beach and helps me to find cool shells. Edgar drives Greg nuts in the boat though. As he is nine, he is a busy bee all the time. Edgar can’t sit still. Greg is always thankful to have me along just for adult company. I don’t get the fishing lines all tangled up like Edgar does.
I will post some pictures of our trip next time. I hope you all have a great week.
